Holidaymakers Scheme
The working Holidaymaker Scheme is an arrangement where by
Nationals from all Commonwealth countries aged between 17
to 27 years can come to thee United Kingdom for an extended
holiday for upto two years and may do part time or casual
work. Work must not be the main reason for their visit. Applicants
desirous of visiting the UK for this purpose shall have to
show that they have sufficient funds to maintain and accommodate
themselves in the UK without recourse to Public Funds. They
should have sufficient funds to cover the cost of a flight
back to the country of their origin. They are also liable
to Pay Tax and National Insurance. To update and make the
scheme more accessible under noted changes have been announced
by the Home Office on 20 June 2003, which will come
into force on 25 August 2003.
- Raising the upper age limit from 27 to 30;
- Removing employment restrictions; and
- After 12 months in the UK, if they meet the necessary
criteria, participants will be allowed to ‘‘switch
’’ status, letting them to take up work permit
employment.
