I married my husband Kulbinder Singh Ubhi who was a
divorcee in April 1998. My husband and I had no knowledge
of the procedures of making application to British High
Commission for Settlement Visa and it was not until
June 1999 when I was interviewed by the British High
Commission. Unfortunately my application was refused
and an appeal against the decision of the Entry Clearance
Officer was also turned down by the adjudicator in UK
in March 2000. My husband availed the services of a
very expensive lawyer who advised us to re-apply in
March 2000. I was reassured when this expensive lawyer
agreed to represent me at the British High Commission
in June 2000 but the intervention of this lawyer could
not end our separation as the Entry Clearance Officer
refused my visa once again. Although we appealed against
the decision, we had lost all the hopes. It was my brother
who found UKIC on the Internet and was impressed with
their case studies. I went to see Mr. Chadha, UK based
immigration lawyer who was visiting Delhi. He was very
sensitive to my plight and studied our hopeless case
in detail. The immigration lawyers of UKIC assisted
my husband and I in preparing the correct documentation,
counselled us for two whole days and represented us
personally at the British High Commission in November
2000. My husband and I can remember those magical moments
when the immigration lawyer of UKIC came out of the
interview room to inform us that the Entry Clearance
Officer has granted me Settlement Visa to join my husband
in UK. Our reunion as a couple in UK can only be attributed
to the efficient and skilled guidance and representation
of UKIC immigration lawyers without whom Settlement
Visa may not have been issued.
